Sister Maureen Shaughnessy serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Center for Ministry Development. She is the present General Superior of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. Sister Maureen has an undergraduate degree in Latin from the College of Saint Elizabeth and a Master's degree in Religious Studies from La Salle University in Philadelphia. Prior to her election, Sister Maureen served as Assistant Secretary for Catechesis and Leadership Formation at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, DC.
Sister Maureen has taught at every level of education—elementary, secondary, college, graduate school, and seminary. She served fifteen years on the diocesan staff in Paterson in three different roles as: Director of Adult Religious Education, 1972-1983; Director of the Office of Evangelization-Catechesis, 1983-1987; and as Secretary of Evangelization-Education, 1984-1987. She then served for eight years as General Secretary and General Councilor for the Sisters of Charity before moving to Washington in 1996, where she served at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops until June 2003.
Presently, Sister Maureen chairs the following: the Board of Trustees of the Hospital of Saint Raphael, New Haven, Connecticut; Board of Trustees of the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, New Jersey; and the Board of Trustees of Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Elizabeth, New Jersey.
