A Message Regarding COVID-19 from Director Tom East
As the national dialogue and reality concerning coronavirus deepens, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation in the Young Neighbors in Action and Just5Days Programs. Your leadership and work in making these mission experiences happen impact thousands, as people in need are served, young people grow in faith, families are engaged, and communities are strengthened. The Center for Ministry Development values your partnership with us in this important work at this crucial time.
We want you to know that we place the safety and well-being of young people and adults as our highest priority while we provide these experiences of faith, mission, and service. We are taking the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation very seriously. Our planning is guided by updates from local health authorities, the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. We are part of the national effort to network and share resources in an effort to provide every assurance to parishes, schools, ministry leaders, parents, and young people. We are researching best practices and developing plans to provide a safe and healthy environment in lodging locations, and worksites. We are working closely with our partners in the service sites where we have worked with elderly or immune-risk residents to transform or redirect service to ensure the safety for facility residents and program participants.
The work of providing service to those in need and helping young disciples grow in faith is vital and urgent. This crisis means that there are people who will need us more than ever. They will need the practical healing, nourishment, work, and service provided by service teams. They also need the witness and inspiration of people young and old serving together in the name of Christ.
At this time, we intend to provide Young Neighbors in Action and Just5Days programs this summer. We will continue to monitor the situation, plan accordingly, and provide regular updates to you about these programs. We also want to address the questions and concerns of your community.
We ask you to join us in praying for all who are impacted by COVID-19, especially for the people who are ill and their families, and for the front-line workers who are providing care. We also ask you to pray for the young people preparing for these mission experiences, for their families and leaders, for the program staff leaders, and for CMD as we continue to discern and serve.
Yours in Christ,
Tom East, Director
