Transforming Ministries

Attention: Ministry Leaders

Dear Friends,

Parishes, schools, dioceses, and ministry centers across the country are finding ways to act with love and respond to youth and families during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Center for Ministry Development joins you in serving, responding, and persisting. We are striving to do everything possible to provide services and assist you. The programs of CMD are transforming to respond to ministry leaders in parishes, schools, dioceses, and other organizations:

  • Youth Ministry Access is providing guidance and models for ministry with youth virtually and gathered, including resources for online gatherings and non-gathered accompaniment of youth.
  • A completely online Confirmation Preparation process is now available as part of Youth Ministry Access for middle school and high school age youth.
  • The Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies and the Certificate in Lifelong Faith Formation are being provided completely online. Seven courses were offered between May and August. Ten additional courses are scheduled in September and October. New sites are beginning the program and additional courses are being scheduled for Spring and Summer 2021.
  • Young Neighbors in Action and Just5Days are confirming sites and locations for Summer 2021 to provide for the continued service and witness of high school and middle school age young people and their adult leaders.
  • YouthLeader Discipleship Training is available for dioceses, parishes and schools to host virtual training events with youth and ministry leaders.

We are also participating in national efforts to gather and share best practices for ministry during the pandemic which includes planning with ministry leadership as we move into changing conditions in the fall and winter.

  • This summer, CMD provided a national virtual service event, One Mission, No Limit – Young Disciples Serving Together, in which hundreds of young disciples served in their community and were linked digitally to many other groups across the country.
  • CMD continues to share guidance and resources for online gatherings and non-gathered ministry and collaborate with parishes to help communities accompany youth and families in growing faith and discipleship.

While there is a lot of uncertainty, we know that we need to adapt strategically to this changing reality. Now, more than ever, communities are counting on responsive ministry. We hope that you will continue to count on CMD as you respond and lead your ministries.
Peace and blessings,
Tom East
